Position Summary
The Communication Officer is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the organization’s internal and external communication strategies. The role aims to enhance the organization’s visibility, strengthen stakeholder engagement, ensure consistent branding, and effectively communicate program achievements, impact stories, and organizational priorities to donors, partners, media, and the public.
The Communication Officer will work closely with program, finance, technical, and leadership teams to produce high-quality communication materials and manage communication channels across digital and traditional platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Communication Strategy & Planning
- Support the development and implementation of organizational communication plans and campaigns.
- Contribute to communication strategies aligned with organizational goals and donor requirements.
- Assist in identifying target audiences and appropriate communication approaches.
- Monitor communication activities and propose improvements for greater outreach and engagement.
2. Content Development & Storytelling
- Develop, edit, and proofread communication materials including: Newsletters, Press releases, Success stories, Human-interest stories, Fact sheets, Brochures, Website articles, Social media content, Annual reports, Donor visibility materials
- Translate technical and programmatic information into audience-friendly content.
- Collect field stories, photographs, quotes, and testimonials from project activities.
- Ensure all communication products are accurate, high quality, and aligned with organizational branding guidelines.
3. Digital Communication & Social Media
- Manage and update organizational communication channels, including: Website, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube and other digital platforms
- Create engaging social media campaigns and multimedia content.
- Monitor online engagement and audience analytics.
- Support content scheduling and digital communication planning.
4. Media & Public Relations
- Maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and communication partners.
- Coordinate media coverage for events, launches, workshops, and campaigns.
- Prepare media kits, talking points, and briefing materials.
- Support drafting official statements and public announcements when required.
5. Event Communication & Visibility
- Support communication and visibility activities for meetings, conferences, workshops, and donor visits.
- Coordinate branding and visibility materials such as banners, backdrops, presentations, and promotional items.
- Document events through photography, video, and written summaries.
- Ensure donor acknowledgment and visibility requirements are properly implemented.
6. Donor & Partner Communication
- Support preparation of communication materials for donor reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Ensure compliance with donor branding and communication guidelines.
- Collaborate with program teams to showcase project achievements and impact.
- Assist in preparing presentations and communication packages for partners and funders.
7. Internal Communication
- Support internal communication initiatives to strengthen staff engagement and information sharing.
- Assist in preparing internal newsletters, announcements, and organizational updates.
- Promote consistent organizational messaging across departments.
- Other communication related activities requested by management
8. Monitoring & Documentation
- Maintain organized communication archives including photos, videos, publications, and media coverage.
- Track communication metrics and prepare communication performance reports.
- Support knowledge management and documentation of lessons learned and best practices.
Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, PR, or related fields (or equivalent professional experience).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in communications or marketing, ideally for an NGO or another organization in development and relief programming.
Technical Skills
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English.
- Strong content creation and storytelling abilities.
- Knowledge of social media management tools and analytics.
- Basic graphic design skills using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite are desirable.
- Photography and video editing skills are an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
