VAN PHONG POWER COMPANY LIMITED

Van Phong Power Company Limited (VPCL) which is 100% owned by Sumitomo Corporation*. Today, the VPCL is well known as a largest investor in Khanh Hoa province where it’s located, and its Van Phong 1 BOT Thermal Power Plant** is the largest thermal power plant in Vietnam.

The VPCL was established in 2018 in Ninh Phuoc commune, Ninh Hoa town, Khanh Hoa province. From this start, the VPCL has been implementing and enhancing the balanced values for the economy and society by providing safe, reliable and efficient power to the market; contributing to the socio-economic development of Khanh Hoa province and South-Central region. In addition, VPCL has been guaranteeing to accompany with local community through many programs of Corporate Social Responsibility to improve the living standards in the long run.

** Van Phong 1 BOT Thermal Power Plant is a 1,320MW super-critical coal-fired power plant. The $2.6bn project is being developed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and Sumitomo Corporation signed an investment agreement for the 1,320MW project in May 2017. The Van Phong 1 BOT Power Plant is backed by a 25-year power purchase agreement with state-owned utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
